Who is that Captain Visual guy, anyway?

Gerry Giovinco began performing as the cosmic clown, Captain Visual, in 1980. His earliest work was as a caricaturist. In the mid-eighties he discovered balloon art and began twisting balloons for tips in the streets of Philadelphia. He developed other clown skills such as magic, juggling, face painting and stilt walking, and with his wife, Shari (Hoopla the Clown), expanded their performance arenas to private parties, schools, corporate events, amusement parks, malls, resorts, and casinos.

Gerry's background as a cartoonist inspired him to look at twisting balloons from a new perspective and he began creating multiple balloon designs of popular cartoon characters. His award-winning designs attracted the interest of other entertainers and in 1992 he self-published seven books that featured his work. He was also invited to write a regular feature for the World Clown Association's publication, "Clowning Around," where his articles appeared regularly for two years.

In the mid-nineties Carol Publishing began producing his work. His two most recent popular books, Captain Visual's Big Book of Balloon Art and The Big Book of Balloons, which featured designs for every holiday, were well-packaged and widely distributed on the mass and specialty markets.

Gerry began producing videos on balloon sculpting. Two volumes of CAPTAIN VISUAL'S SUPER BALLOON ART SERIES are already completed and he now has plans to convert them to DVD.

His most recent creative efforts involving media are the development of this web site and the production of an exciting CGI animation project "Captain Visual's Intergalactic Circus" that features the animation talents of Chris Palmer.

Gerry and his wife have lectured across the U.S. and Europe at conventions, clown alleys, and workshops. He has been received as entertaining and informative, but most importantly accessible speaker. Clear explanations and a simple approach to balloon designs have made him a popular lecturer.

Gerry and Shari have run their own clown conventions in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. They run a busy entertainment company, G.F. Entertainment, that has produced season long entertainment for a number of resort communities.

Gerry and Shari are also the proud parents of Jenna and Michael.
